The Need for Unified Communication
In India, there are over 122 major languages, but no officially recognized or standardized sign language system. Although Indian Sign Language (ISL) is commonly used, significant variations exist across regions.
As a result, 99% of deaf and hard of hearing individuals in India are either uneducated or drop out of school by Class VI or VII, unable to cope with the lack of accessible education. This educational gap significantly impacts their ability to access job opportunities, reinforcing cycles of poverty and marginalization.
Furthermore, voice loss, which can occur due to accidents, illnesses, or other causes, adds another layer of complexity for individuals who can no longer speak. These individuals also rely on alternative forms of communication, including sing language and speech aids, to interact with the world around them.
